Clyde Dean

The best double sided disc on the Cincinnati label Black Jack label, best known for  Eddie Whitehead, was Clyde Dean’s. He wrote both songs and they are both strong deep ballads. As can be heard on ListenCan You Keep A Secret he had a rough and ready style, not a great range but full of that bite and grit that just suited the material he wrote. The bridge at the end of the disc is perhaps the best part. ListenI Don’t Need Her is as good as the flip, with good horns and a fine female chorus. Again the double timed ending on which he really cuts loose is the prime section of the song. This rare 45 is the only release I can find by Mr Dean sadly.
