Adrian Lanier

The best known 45s on John Fred’s Baton Rouge, LA Stone label are probably the ones by the excellent Earnest Jackson, but this disc by Adrian Lanier is a very strong self-penned double sider which needs more attention. Lanier has a light attractive high baritone voice with a real sense of timing, and he comes across well on the splendidly catchy “Keep On Seeking” which has a similar feel to the sort of track that Frederick Knight was laying down in Birmingham, AL at the time. But I think Lanier is at his best on the top side, an uptown ballad called ListenYou Make Me Dig On You with those lovely falsetto whoops and tasteful central rap.
