E G Taylor

The tiny Val label was based in Pittsburgh, PA and despite the vocal group attraction of George Goodman’s lovely “Starlight And Moonbeams” I think this 45 by Eugine (E G) Taylor is the best that the company put out. The frantic “You Made Me Mad” has had lots of Northern attention, but for me Taylor rather gets lost in all the noise around him, even though the horn charts are much to my taste. The deep A side ListenPick Yourself Up gives him much more room to demonstrate his heartfelt vocal strength. Great stop/go playing especially from the busy drummer.
