While “I Need You” is a tuneful ballad rather spoilt by some intrusive female singers, It Won’t Be This Way Always is much stronger – and deeper altogether. Weston really gives a solid performance here, full of gospel tricks which go so well with the bluesy backing with its busy bass and haunted saxes. The opening section, as he testifies against some nice guitar, is particularly effective.
The name of writer/producer Robert Banks has figured favourably on several pages of this website already – and this super effort only adds to his CV. Recorded in New York or New Jersey.
