Appointments

Nothing that the Appointments cut for New Yorker Gene Redd can get anywhere near Sweet Daddy for power or impact. The De Lite / Redd Coach tracks are pleasant but totally unremarkable group soul, whereas this cut is a hidden gem. The contrast between the harsh grainy lead and the background harmonies works really well. And the rap in the middle section is finely judged too. The chugging rhythm and occasional horns all add up to a near perfect record.
