Bobby Banks
Too sweet for some? Too melodic for real deep soul? I don’t think so. Banks’ cracked vocals and obvious pain make this ballad a real personal favourite. Neither the subdued strings nor the background girls intrude (a criticism of many discs from Philly) and the little raps only add to the mood. It would be nice to find more music of the quality of Read It And Weep from the guy but I don’t know of any more 45s sadly.
