Jimmy Brown
Like Melvin Lewis and Robert Tanner, Jimmy Brown was one of the singers with legendary Lynchburg, VA group The Jivers, who became the New Sound for their later Turbo LP. Always Good To Me is a deep soul disc in the classic mode, with the scene set by a churchy organ and arpeggio guitar, before Brown comes in hard and emotional. After a considerable wait the horns arrive, adding weight to Brown’s emotion. The flip is an uptempo piece with a good R&B feel.
