Fire & Smoke
Another vanishingly obscure release from the unknown Fire & Smoke. You gotta love the gritty tone of lead singer William Pryor on the very fine ballad Since My Baby Left Me. Backed up by a spare small band he really gets into the heartbreak lyric – full of desperate emotion and hoarse power. The official top side of this private pressing which could well have been originally intended as a demo is a more lively mid paced dance tune with more of Pryor’s gruff pleading.
Is anybody able to shed any light on this 45? Did Pryor ever cut anything else? He really should have done.
