Keep your promises - LYNDELL 797

Clarence Glover

Lyndell was only a small Georgia label from Brunswick but on it there were a couple of wonderful deep soul items. One was by Bobby Thomas and the Afros and the other was this one by Clarence Glover. The dead slow beat of Keep Your Promises is well judged as is the up front horn section and the ebb and flow of the song, quiet on the verses, louder on the refrain when the female chorus kicks in, gives it a lovely feel. Glover himself is properly respectful of the lyric only really letting go as the song fades out. A very strong piece of southern soul.
