Gene Graham
The release date for this fantastic rock hard item from Gene Graham is 1970. Listening to it however gives you a rather different idea. The feel of the music is midway between blues and soul – perfect for my taste – and Graham’s rough tough delivery, full of that gruff tone, is straight ahead R & B. This track could have been cut many years earlier and would not have seemed out of place. Think Johnny Sayles' wonderful Mar-V-Lus 45s for example.
My Goodness baby was written and produced by that interesting character Lenny LaCour. The mention of Vic Pitts & His Cheaters confirms a Milwaukee location for the recording, especially as LaCour was active there at the time with his Magic Touch label.
Thanks to Dave Porter for the suggestion
