Morris Gardner
Although Philly soul is pretty much always aimed at the sweeter end of the spectrum, there were a surprising number of deeper singers around the City of Brotherly Love like Odell Knight and Terry Collins. And Morris Gardner should certainly be added to that list. He comes on gritty and very effective on 
Happy Go Lucky accompanied by some fine background vocals as well. The instrumentation is much more southern in style than usual – check out that churchy organ, great bluesy guitar chords and the fat horns. Love it.
