Raymond George

To the initiated Houma, LA singer/guitarist has a deserved reputation as one of the best players in rural Louisiana. I don’t think he ever cut anything in the Golden Age apart from this one 45 for the local Houma concern. ListenIf I Should Lose You is one of those tracks that show just how much deep soul owes to that unique Pelican State sound called Swamp Pop. It is a gentle 12/8 number with just a bassist, pianist and a drummer accompanying George who sings and plays his axe, in a plaintive lament about his feelings. Authentic, down home music that you just don't find these days.

You can see more of George’s wonderful blues techniques here and here.
