Clinton Harmon
Light voiced Georgian singer Harmon recorded these throwback styled sides right in the middle of the disco boom – no wonder they disappeared without trace. But southern soul enthusiasts should note their quality. I Want To Get Close To You is a wonderfully melodic ballad with so much space in the arrangement and some impassioned squalls from Harmon – love the climbing horn section too.
The very rare Lisa single has the fine mid paced toe-tapper “Let’s Make A New Start” on it, but for me the pick of his small output is the downbeat Can’t Help The Way I Feel About You cut at Clarence Carter’s Future Stars studio, with the great man himself producing. Not only is this Harmon’s best vocal, the minor keyed structure of the song suits him to a T. A super piece of deep soul.
