Iris Harvey

Big voiced Iris Harvey had sessions in New York with Columbia in-house producer Frank Driggs in 1966, and the dancers have picked up on the finger snapper “Betrayed”. But while that one swings quite well, I much prefer the big beat ballad flip ListenSoul on which Harvey is much more emotionally compelling, with a really lovely tone. The chugging backing sounds just right, especially the busy pianist, and if only the background singers had been toned down a bit this would be a really first class track. But even so it fully merits it’s inclusion on these pages.
