Barry Jones

Nothing else that Barry Jones cut gets near this scintillating deep soul piece. He eases his way into I’m The Great Lover with a well judged rap before taking his time – lovely drawling tone and delay timing – over the desperate lyric. Fantastic screaming at the end too. I have seen this described as coming from the Carolinas but it’s a penny to a pound the rhythm track at least was recorded in Memphis – those horns and that drummer couldn’t have come from anywhere else.
