The streets of the city - NEW COLONY 29280

Otis Johnson

I only know of this one obscure Chilicothe, Ohio release by Otis Johnson but given his fine vocals here that’s a real shame. Over a spare backing of organ, arpeggio guitar, bass and drums, Johnson pours out his tale of woe on ListenThe Streets Of The City in a harsh compellingly emotional way. The fact that the accompaniment is so bare puits all the pressure on Johnson but he delivers  - oh boy does he deliver. For some reason this track reminds me of cuts by Tony Joe White – maybe it’s because of the simplicity of it all.

UPDATE ~ Dante Carfagna has written to add that the Columbus, OH artist had another 45 on Blue Ash. I'm grateful as ever to Dante for sharing his wealth of knowledge.
