Its a cold cold world - TEAR DROP 3191

Tommy Jackson

ListenCold Cold World is a song about the childhood break up of his family on which Jackson sounds suitably desolate over a classic deep soul backing – organ, guitar and fine horns. The flip to this 45 – the only one by him that I know – is a another ballad but much more country in tone and “A Torch I Carry” gives a more obvious clue that Jackson may well have been white. But whatever his colour this release is another gem from Foy Lee's Conroe, TX operation. Super deep soul.

UPDATE ~ Tommy's son Paul Dougherty has been in touch regarding his father's career. Tommy is now retired from the business but he did record some other tracks. "Cold Cold World" was his best number though and Paul says "yes he's white. it did well until the soul stations found that out." Not the firsttime I;ve heard that sort of story. You can read more about Tommy's life and music at the fine site Paul has set up here.
