Ike Lovely
Only a couple of releases for this fine gravel voiced singer sadly – but they are both essential deep soul pieces. You’re My Bad Habit Baby is right in the pocket – a strong song based on classic chord changes, tasteful playing with the organ and horns particularly good and Ike emoting in his best Big O style. You gotta love the falsetto howl in the run out groove.
Fool’s Hall Of Fame is slightly more subtly orchestrated and produced as you’d expect from a 70s recording but Ike retains much of his tough gritty approach. The subdued background singers are really good as is the song itself. But Lovely’s falsetto cries remain the best part of this recording too.
