Bobby Mack

Bobby Mack's only release for the Leaner brothers in Chicago was this super little deep soul piece. He puts a lot of gritty emphasis and emotional strength into his performance and it really pays off. Wonderful screaming climax to boot. The backing is classic Windy City hard soul with a full horn section.

The lyrics on the first verse – but not of course the melody – are identical to those on William Bell’s later and much more celebrated deep ballad of the same name. The writer credits are completely different so this must be a coincidence. Mustn’t it?

Was Bobby Mack part of Joe & Mack on One-Der-Ful?
