Gene Miller
This isn’t the Memphis trumpeter/arranger/producer “Bowlegs” Miller
but another guy altogether. Giving
You The Love You Need is
the only 45 by big voiced West Coast singer Miller that I’ve been able
to find so far – but it’s a real winner. Listen to his voice
go from hoarse and grainy to sweet falsetto and back again particularly as
he gets to the hookline. Truly great vocals – dig that screaming! The
chord changes and the arrangement are fine too. This came out in 1974 and
the label says it's taken from the LP "Raw Soul". I've never seen the album
but it's title sums up Miller's style brilliantly.
UPDATE ~ Just discovered the Alfie 45 - both sides strong southern style funk.
