KEN-DEL 5295Nunnie & The Enchanted Heartbreakers

This totally obscure but brilliant release has a melodic tone and an evocative feel that is absolutely in line with the group’s wonderful name. The gentle introduction to ListenI Stand Alone from the twin saxes sets up the mood superbly. Which is carried through by the demonstrative lead voice and even though the bridge ups the rhythm a little this only serves as a delicious counterpart to the main event which winds to a tender conclusion. The garage band instrumental flip could mean that Nunnie and his crew might be white.

The disc, issued in 1967,  was recorded in Wilmington, Delaware at the Ken-Del studios which are still going strong 50 years on. I’ve emailed them to ask if anybody recalls Nunnie & The Enchanted Heartbreakers but I haven’t yet received a reply sadly.
