George Pepp

New Orleans singer George Pepp is a cult figure on the Northern soul scene for his excellent uptempo R & B track “The Feeling Is Real”, but he made a couple of other 45s that aren’t so well celebrated. Pepp’s other 45 for producer Larry Coleman had “You Gotta Get A Wig”, a fine piece of rollicking Crescent City music that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Huey Smith & The Clowns release, while the flip ListenSay It Once In A While is classic mid 60s NOLA ballad – you can tell that Mr Wardell did the big arrangement. “For You” is a tasteful ballad pretty much ruined by a very persistent guitar figure way too high in the mix. “He Created Woman” is in similar vein but the guitar isn’t quite so obtrusive.
