Vann Perry
I’ve had a real soft spot for this one ever since I first heard it so many years ago. It’s not just the gently chugging beat, and finely constructed New York arrangement by veteran Teacho Wiltshire, or the great chord structure or Perry’s anguished Sam Cooke flavoured vocal. Rather it’s the combination of all of these pieces coming together – and when you throw in Eric Gale’s lovely guitar, Perry’s defiant spoken break in the middle and his screams of pain at the end you’ve got an all-time deep winner on your hands. Great baritone sax as well!
