Willie Que
I always get a lot of reaction to the West Coast R & B singers I feature on these pages and Willie Que is another one to add to the ever lengthening list of them. The cut that really hits home from this artist is the dead slow Don’t Wait Till Tomorrow. Is it doo wop? A slow blues ballad? Early soul? Whatever bag you want to put it in this is a very fine piece of music. Check out Willie’s achingly heartbroken vocal and the gently cooing chorus behind him for example. But the killer touch is his falsetto howls as the run out groove unfolds. Simply wonderful.
