David Robinson
David Robinson’s Orbitone track “I’m A Carpenter” is the one that the funk addicts are always screaming for, but the reflective I Care For You from the same label is much more to my taste. The simplicity of Eddie Bo’s instrumental setting especially the guitar fills and the solo sax which weaves its way in and out of the verses, and the power and commitment in Robinson’s voice make this haunting little gem a firm favourite for deep fans. I love his opening falsetto scream – really sets the tone for track – and the way he keeps the momentum going by repeating the treatment at intervals throughout it.
