Jay Robinson
This deliciously melodic ballad is the only 45 that Jay Robinson ever cut - but what a winner. Coming across somewhere between deep and sweet soul - rather like the Blues Brothers #1 disc - Robinson's clear and flexible tenor voice really delivers the goods over a sympathetic male group, the Dynamics. It goes without saying that the Muscle Shoals musicians do their usual first class job on I Can't Live Without You. Love the gentle vibes (Spooner Oldham?) and Junior Lowe's tasteful "trembly" guitar. The flip is a pretty fair update to James & Bobby Purify's big hit. Both sides are a credit to arranger/co-producer Spooner Oldham and co-producer Papa Don Schroeder.
