Rufus & Roscoe
From deepest Louisiana come these two live wire
performers on what seems to be their only recording. “Love Me” is
a storming blues shuffle and Stay
With Me is as downbeat as
you can get. A superb big horn section and a spirited lead guitarist (is
this the Boogie Kings?) make the perfect backdrop for some really powerful
singing. An excellent blues ballad. From the sound I'd date this to the very
early 60s.
Great vocal exchanges on both sides of this super “own label” disc – who were these guys? From the writers I think we can assume that they were messrs Gosey and Cagle but did they cut anything else?
