Shade Of Soul
In southern soul circles the Sunburst label is perhaps best known for the 45s by Roshell Anderson, but there were some other fine cuts by Lily Fields and Soul Potion (lovely sweet soul). This 45 by the female trio called Shade Of Soul shouldn’t be overlooked either. The top side is a funky little tune, but the ballad flip Sleep Easy has much more going for it. Fine harmony vocals for a start, and the impassioned lead as well. The rhythm section do their best, as do the horns, mixed very low, but this one is really all about the singers.
