I need you - FEDERAL 12496

Snapshots

Another obscure duo that bridged the gap between R & B and soul, the Snapshots only had this one 45 on Federal. I love the interplay of the voices on ListenI Need You and the way the baritone sax leads the horn section. The presence of Johnny Otis’ name on the writing credit would indicate a West Coast origin for this disc – as well as the possibility that the great man’s orchestra provides the rich instrumental backing.

UPDATE ~ Jeff Beckman, an authority on group soul has kindly been in touch about this mystery. He writes "The Snapshots on Tammy are a white group and not related to the Federal duo." I'm very grateful to Jeff for the info and for taking the time/trouble to get in touch.

That's what I like / ListenI need you ~ FEDERAL 12496 (1963)

Note ~ There is another group called the Snapshots who had a single release on the Ohio based Tammy label. Is this the same group?
