Soul Twisters

The 5 man Soul Twisters came from Greenville, NC and recorded four sides for Roy Matthews’ local Romat records. The guys not only sang but made their own small band music as well. Neither side of their first release comes within the ambit of these pages, but the flip of the rather derivative “Doing Our Dance" ListenIf It Takes A Year certainly does. This simple but tuneful song is a real winner thanks to the excellent lead from Fred Farmer, the low key harmonies and the artless feel of the piece via only drums, bass, guitar and organ. Sometimes the easiest sounding tracks are the most difficult, and the most effective. And that’s the case here.
