Turner Bros
This set of Turner Brothers isn't the famous Indianapolis pairing of Alison and Calvin but a rather lesser known group who cut just this one 45 for New York's Carnival label. They came from Florida apparently but nothing else seems to have surfaced regarding their life stories so we are just left with their disc. But what a peach I'm The Man For You Baby is - full of vocal fire and passion. Just check out those harmonies and the excellent falsetto phrases. The backing track does their voices proud, with some especially tasty guitar work (Eric Gale? Cornell Dupree?) and fine horn charts.
Carnival is of course best known for some lovely group soul from the Manhattans but there are other deep cuts well worth seeking out by such artist as Little Royal, Kenneth Ruffin (who wrote this beauty), Rene Bailey and Jimmy Jules from New Orleans.
Note - Both sides of this 45 can be found on Vols 1 and 3 of the Kent UK CD series "A Carnival Of Soul."
