Matthew White
This is the only 45 I’m aware of by this New York singer. Stone Cold Soul Sister has a good storyline, and some fine downward chord changes, but the piece is really made by White’s gruff, fully committed vocal and some righteous testifying from the girls backing him up. Great tenor sax solo in the middle part helps a lot too. Flip is a strong version of “House Of Memories”, best known for the Philly cut by Willie Roundtree.
Thanks to Brian Goucher for the suggestion.
