Janice Young

This obscurity is the only disc I know by West Coast artist Janice Young – but both sides are good ballad soul. Perhaps ListenNo One just takes the biscuit thanks to a slightly better melody but Janice is strong and fully committed on both tracks backed by a sympathetic small group. A horn fanatic like me would wish that Mssers Hughes and Oneal who produced this disc could have found the cash for a trumpeter and saxophone player or two but that’s really by the by. Note that this True Soul label isn’t the gallant Little Rock outfit but one based in Los Angeles.
