Samuel T Robinson

There wasn’t a bad 45 on the tiny Vilma label out of Holly Springs, MS. Artists like Edna Echols, Gary Wicks and the excellent Willie Boyd all flew the southern soul flag with distinction, as does Samuel T Robinson. The organ led funky opus “Take Time To Go Crazy” has some dance scene admirers but I much prefer the more studied ballad ListenSomewhere In Mississippi. The gospel based chords are right in the pocket as is Mr Robinson’s heartfelt vocal. As always label owner W B Mitchell’s production is A1 – both sides were written by his son Dwight Errol Mitchell.
